Snow Hank!

Winter! Beautiful, white, crisp Canadian winter. Oh how I've missed thee! I couldn't be more serious when I say I've been absolutely, whole heartily craving a good 'ol fashioned Canadian winter. I guess the mucky brown Christmas of 2011 is what got to me and I haven't let up on my demands of Mother Nature. Finally...February 11, 2012 is when she heard me and graciously answered.
Yeeeeeeeeee haaaaaawwwwwwwww! Winter!
Other than the crazy man who was driving way too fast and spun round and round directly in front of us atop the Burlington skyway yesterday, its been a sweet, snowy weekend!
Who knew one could have so much fun in the backyard with their crazy golden retriever?! Here he is yesterday and today. Time flies...Hank is 3 and a half years old and more beautiful than ever.

Our morning walk...

As Hank and I enjoyed our routine walk this morning, the smell of spring was in the air. The robins were out full force and fatter than ever, the tulips are poking up, buds on the trees are budding, the grass is 'greening' and then, in an instant we were caught smack dab in the middle of a brief sleet/snow/freezing rain squall. What gives with this weather? Mother nature works in mysterious ways! There's no stopping Hank and I from our walks no matter what the weather brings. On to an eco~fashion note...spring/summer photos are coming soon and I'm hoping for a wonderful photo shoot in a local cherry tree orchard when the trees are in full blossom. Stay tuned.

More snow?!!

Well, here we are in Southern Ontario getting pounded with a snow storm following some truly gorgeous spring like days. I thought we were in the free and clear from old man winter. Not so much. This calls for a little more hibernation time, a little more red wine and a reflection of natures wonders.

Where have all the robins gone?
Are they snuggled in their nests anticipating the return of spring?
And my sweet little tulip bulbs are back asleep, covered by their blanket of snow.
The pussy willows must be confused.
The children are happy, sleds in hand.
My retriever Hank loves the snow.
I love Hank's nose covered in snow.
Maybe tomorrow spring will come again,
this time to stay for a while.

Momentary lapse of Groove?

WHAT??!!
Although, not so momentary as it has lasted for a couple of weeks.
I've been wondering for the past couple of weeks where has my creative groove gone? Why is this happening? When will it return? Does this happen to others?
The answer is simple...The answer is...I don't know (a little reference from the movie Reality Bites).
But truly, I don't know.
I've been designing, sketching, planning for spring/summer 2011 and yet it's just not as colourful as it usually is.
Well today something extraordinary happened and I have been connected with someone fabulous! Great things for Hemp Couture are on the horizon and even though I have been hit with this cold bug that's going around, I'm filled with excitement and yes...my creative groove. Phewwwww!
Over the next couple of days you will see some great new pieces added to http://www.hempcouture.etsy.com/ and that is just the beginning.
I'm feeling the fire under my...well, you know and that's just what I needed to get me out of this slow lane and into the multi passenger carpool lane.

This years Strutt Niagara was fabulous, as always. Thank you Niagara Artists Centre!
The locals all shared in the craziness of 'art meets fashion'.
A superb time was had by all.
Hemp Couture is very proud to have been featured in The St. Catharines Standard as well as on their website. Click over the title "Strutt 2010' to see the photos.
My darling friend and model, Alex strutted; yet again like nobody's business! She's the one with the butterfly headpiece and the whimsy cork dress. This was my tribute to our late, GREAT Alexander McQueen. May God rest his beautiful soul.

Lazy Dawg Days of Summer

J'aime Montréal!!

Well here we are into August already.
Where do the days go?
We just got back from a fabulously fun trip to Montreal!
All of our bestfriends and us, together for summertime fun. Giddy up!
We had a grand apartment right in old Montreal on St. Paul street! Amazing!
We went to Osheaga Music festival and had so much fun, it should be illegal!
We drank tons of delicious wine, great beer, ate amazing cheese and never to forget Schwartz's smoked meat samich! Whoah! My mouth waters just thinking about it! Yup, they're that good!
All in all summer has been wonderful thus far.
With a couple more getaway's planned up north, more fun times bbqing and sharing with friends and just simply living in the now of our lazy dawg days of summer. Life feels complete and I feel blessed and so fortunate.
With that said...Hemp Couture has and will be slowing down production just a bit. I have landed a new position working outside the home and managing a retail operation here in Niagara. Its a huge opportunity and a huge career move. I still love my Hemp Couture and still plan to carry on, just at a slower more low key pace. I will still be involved in fashion shows, conduct open house's, trunk sales and of coarse try my very best to keep up with my blogs and tweets.
Please stay tuned for upcoming photos I will be adding both from Hemp Couture and also from my new venture.

Hemp Couture Baby Ring Slings

Hemp Couture is proud to launch our All Natural Baby Slings for 2009!
Created with 100% Hemp outer shell and 100% Organic Cotton lining! Amazingly soft and as always with hemp, AMAZINGLY STRONG making them super safe!
Slings are such a great way to connect with your baby and keep her close to your heart. Whether you’re wearing your little one in the cradle position, nursing, up right, on your hip etc. you will be enhancing that special bond that you share together. The organic cotton lining is so soft and silky creating a comfy little nest for baby and the outer hemp shell is already soft, but will also soften more so with wash and wear.
Hemp is naturally resistant to mold, mildew and ultraviolet light making the HC Baby Sling perfect for a sunny day, but also great even for a damp stroll in the park. Hemp fabric has so many fantastic qualities including the breathability that this wonder fiber has to offer. It seems to breathe and keep baby cool on warm days or it holds heat in to keep your little one warm on chilly days!
The Hemp Couture Baby Sling is a 'ring' sling making it versatile and a one size fits all. The rings are top grade solid brass weld rings with a silver finish and are 1/4" thick (equivalent of 4 gauge). Tested to 750 pounds! These rings are specifically manufactured for Baby Slings and are guaranteed to meet all safety standards for baby wearing!
Each and every seam is triple stitched ensuring strength and durability.
At present I am offering the HC Baby Sling in one colour only, All Natural beige Organic Cotton lining and All Natural beige Hemp outer shell, again offering versatility in coordinating with any outfit.
Each sling also has a nice long 'tail' adding additional coverage for privacy when baby is breastfeeding or against the elements of nature.
The HC Baby Sling is unlike all other slings that are available. Many people are drawn to thick, padded slings assuming that they are stronger and safer when really they're just more bulky and difficult to use. This is not the case with the HC Baby Sling! They are lightweight and very comfortable to wear with much less extra added 'bulk' than padded slings, creating a cozy little nest for your sweet pea.
